FavoUrite blogs

The inimitably conscientious blogger Argentum Vulgaris rather kindly included me in his list of favoured bloggers, and nominated me the above award which, even though it's missing a 'U' is greatly appreciated.

The catch (there's always a bleedin' catch ain't there?) is that I have to nominate eight blogs that I follow for a similar honour, and include the following text in my acceptance post:

“These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers.”

I'm not interested in self-aggrandizement me. In fact, I wouldn't wear one if it was hand-stitched by Queen Boudicca herself, with "I hate Romans" graffitoed with gilt into the hem, and yes I do so know what self-aggrandizement means actually. It was a very popular style of corset worn a couple of thousand years ago.

As AV points out, it's not hard to choose blogs that fit this award. The hard part is choosing the ones not to include. As a subjective cut off point, I'll only go for ones that have quite a lot of posts, because they've toiled more for my entertainment, bless their little dancing monkey hearts:

1. Girl Interupted

2. Madame DeFarge

3. Douglas

4. Jimmy

5. Miss Alaineus

6. Mo "Mad Dog" Stoneskin

7. Vic

8. Pearl

There you go. That's practically a random selection of the blogs I follow, and I can heartily recommend having a look at both them and my entire 'followy' list because it would appear I have really good taste in blogs.

I urge you to check them out and comment, preferably favourably, but as some of them are complete comment-whores they won't mind what you write.

  1. Aww, thanks dude.

Can't say for sure whether I'm not up for a bit of self-aggrandizement every now and then but I'll take that award with thanks and a pinch of salt...

  2. Congrats to you. Tell me this though...why do you put a U in favorite?

  3. I think the additional U you Brits put in certain words is a bit annoying. Makes me want to pronounce the word with a "oor" sound (as in "your" or "pour"). It's fav-OR-ite not fav-OOR-ite. Still, it was your language first so I suppose I shouldn't gripe.

  4. Mo - You're welcome mate! It's a mixed blessing.

Thinkinfyou - Cos I learned gud England when I were a children! Superfluous U's are how we roll in this country. It's colourful and the propeur way to speull.

I was going to give you that award but I went alphabetically and ran out of nomination spaces. Count yourself lucky!

  5. Douglas - We DO pronounce the ou as in 'your', if we slow it down. I like the differences in our spellings, like tyre and tire, although thru is just irritating, through and through.

  7. Jules- you are definitely one of my favourites, and as a Canadian, I am very comfortable with all the Us. Bring 'em on, I say. I just wish my spell checker would stop underlining all my correct spellings in such an annoying manner. Also, we must not forget the joy of the -re over -er. Embrace it people. Centre! Theatre! Metre! Ohh yeah, feels good.

  8. James Oh - Why ta very much. Good name by the way. Even better if you reverse the words!

TC - I quite like a lot of the yanks spelling and word use. Some words (like Fall instead of Autumn) are supposed to be older than the commonly used English ones. And apparently, 'gotten' is proper olde English! Sounds like a German swear word to me.

  9. Awww, thanks Jules!! :)

Coming from you that's big compliment!

Spose I'll have to exert myself and think of some mofo's ... I mean super, lovely bloggers to pass it on to now!

Ps: I'm not a comment whore! I'm a commenter of easy virtue! Humph!

  10. All this love! I shall have to re-arrange my inner view of you, Jules, ya irreverent SOB ya.

Speaking of unexpected "U"s, I spelled only one word wrong in all my years in elementary school. 'Twas the word "honour". I had been reading some British author who escapes me at the moment; and impressionable child I was, I wrote it down incorrectly during the test. Believe me when I tell you that I defended the hell out of the word "honour" -- to no avail.

That fateful day in fifth grade still haunts me. I had been undefeated until that point.

And that's when I started drinking.

    The End.

  11. Girl I - Sorry. I didn't mean to cast aspersions on your comments of negotiable virute.

Pearly - Lovely story. If it hadn't happened, you would now have to live up to being consistently perfect, which is difficult to do.
